Two police officers and a civilian have been killed by unknown gunmen at a police checkpoint in Imo State. The incident occurred at Ama-John Junction, along Okigwe Road in Owerri in the early hours of the day

The police officers were seen lying helplessly on the ground and another body was shown in a room.
An eyewitness account said the armed men - four in number - escaped in a Toyota Sienna bus after the shooting.
Businesses were shut down in the area as shop owners closed their shops out of fear
The Imo State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Henry Okoye confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate. He added that two officers had been confirmed dead and the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has mobilised a tactical operation to the scene to apprehend the perpetrators “Currently, a massive operation is underway in the area to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous crime,” he said.
