Nigerians have taken to the X in support of a tweet by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC over the presence of the military at the venue of the negotiations between the NLC/TUC versus the Federal Government.


Earlier , the NLC had raised alarm that the meeting venue was surrounded by military personnel and warned that any attempt to intimidate, its leaders at the negotiation table, would worsen the situation .

However, the Nigerian Army @HQnigerianarmy had explained in a tweet reasons for the heavy presence of military men at the venue of the meeting between the Federal Government and the striking NLC and TUC.


It stated that the soldiers are only escorts to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu who is present at the meeting.


The Army wrote


“The attention of Army Headquarters has been drawn to a false breaking news by NLC alleging that soldiers currently surround the venue of the ongoing meeting between NLC and the SGF


"Kindly note that the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is also attending the meeting, arrived at the meeting venue with his retinue of statutorily approved military escorts. Once the meeting is over, the escorts will lead the NSA from the venue .


“Kindly disregard the deliberate and misleading falsehood being peddled about the presence of the escorts at the meeting"

Their explanations did not go down well with several Nigerian.

While Oga Mayor PCFR@Oga Mayor queried: "What is the business of the office of the NSA with labor negotiations if not to intimidate the comrades ??????

"We keep pretending we are under a democratic dispensation…

 The issue quickly degenerated into a hot debate as other Nigerians quickly rose in defence of the Nigerian Army contending that the NLC/TUC strike which had shut down the economy is indeed of National Security concerns 

Omoyele Sowore@YeleSowore urged the NLC to "Please stay firm and undaunted; this is one of their worn-out intimidation tactics. It would be a letdown if you let this discourage you from carrying out your finite duties in the fight for a just wage for Nigerian workers.
