With the Supreme Court Ruling granting financial autonomy to the LGAs and granting that FAAC allocation be paid directly to the LGAs, Abia State and 19 other States with caretaker committees , CTC may not get their July allocation as they only have CTCs in place.


Following the Supreme Court judgement on Thursday, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi on Friday declared that the apex court's decision takes immediate effect.


Consequently, the 20 States, including Abia State that lack elected local government administration will be barred from receiving local government funds starting in July until they hold elections.


 The affected States are Jigawa, Rivers, Anambra, Imo, Kwara, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, Abia, Enugu, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Ondo, Osun, Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River,  and Benue.


Justice Emmanuel Agim, who delivered the milestone judgement directed that local government funds should no longer be paid through State governments, stating that governors have abused  the process.


He pointed out that governors have been retaining and utilizing these funds contrary to the intents the constitutional provision  which stated that the FAAC allocation to the LGAs be paid through the State Governments
