Rep Sam Onuigbo on Saturday urged the women of Olokoro community in Umuahia South LGA to be pure and genuine in searching out those who can contribute to the development of the community


Onuigbo, the former member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives was speaking as a special guest at the Olokoro Clan Development Union Women Federated, OCDUWF's 39th  Annual August meeting



The former lawmaker who was decorated with the award:  'Ezi Enyi ndi Uvuoma' described the annual August Meetings organised by women in several communities as a unique interlude in women's life when they gather to pool together ideas and  resources for the development of their communities.


"We should understand the August meetings for what it really is, it is not a jamboree or merely another social gathering, but a unique time for women, when they meet to reflect on the issues affecting their communities and proffer solutions them. There is a lot to be learnt from the August meetings", he said 


Onuigbo who represents the South-East geo-political zone in the North East Development Commission NEDC in his reaction to the honour conferred on him by the women, said he feels humbled by the gesture describing it  as an award earned and not an award purchased. 


"Indeed, I am  profoundly encouraged by the women who found me worthy of the  Distinguished Award of Recognition of "Ezi Enyi Uvuoma. I am touched because this wasn't given during the election season when politicians are manoeuvring for all sorts of awards in search of votes. 


"I'm neither in the Senate nor in the House of Representatives now, yet I am being recognised by the women from this strong and great community for my past outstanding accomplishments in Olokoro Clan, Abia State, Nigeria, and globally. I feel honoured. I treasure it and give glory to Almighty God


In her speech during the occasion, the President-General of OCDUWF said the Annual August meeting provides and opportunity for the women to come together and address contemporary issues affecting the community. She added that it also provides an opportunity to raise funds for major projects in the community and to recognise individuals who have  made positive contributions to the development of Olokoro.


Onuigbo was honoured for his contribution to education, infrastructural development and empowerment in the community
