Monday Onyekachi Ubani

Abia State-born irrepressible social critic, political activist, community leader, commentator on national issues, unrepentant philanthropist, and pro-good governance advocate, Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani has been elevated to the Inner Bar and would be sworn in as Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN on September 30, 2024


In a release Thursday, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee at its 164th plenary session under the chairmanship of Hon Justice Olukayode Ariwoola stated that 86 other legal practitioners were equally elevated to the Inner Bar and would be sworn in as SANs too.


SAN is awarded as a mark of excellence to legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves as Advocates and Academics.


 Ubani to his legal activism is popularly referred to as the 2nd Senior Advocate of the Masses after late Chief Gani Fawehinmi


Ubani  is the Principal Partner of the law firm of Ubani & Co. He established the firm in 1991 shortly after his NYSC programme. He attended University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained an LL.B(Second class upper division) degree, and was called to the bar in 1990 after bagging a B.L(Second class upper division) from the Nigerian Law School. He is also a holder of LL.M degree in Comparative Constitutional & Company Law which he obtained from the University of Lagos.


He began his professional working career as Pupil Counsel in the law firm of K.C Ugbuajah & Co in Kano during his NYSC programme. He is the Company Secretary/Director to A.G.M.B.S and External Solicitor to several companies


Ubani has been conferred with the following honours and awards:

6th Ikeja City Award of Excellence 2011 presented to Barrister M.O Ubani.

Akwa Ibom Indigenes Development Initiative (AKIDI) Lagos Nigeria- Award of Excellence for selfless Service to Humanity and public

SPODAC Award of Excellence conferred on Barr. M.O Ubani- Award of Excellence and Service to Humanity

Lagos State Radio Service- Special award presented to Barrister M.O Ubani as Listener of the year 2008, Eko FM.

Naija Growing Green Media Dinner Award- Recognition Award for numerous contributions towards a better and greener Nigeria.

Certified Pension Institute of igeria Fellowship Award, 8th December 2011.

JCL (Lagos City) Active Award presented to Barr. M.O Ubani at Active Citizens Discourse 2012.

Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Ikeja Chapter- Distinguished Service Award 2012 presented to Barrister M.O Ubani.
