The Abia State Government has signified indications to reconstruct a major road artery linking Ikwuano LG to Bende LG which would also open up a third road linking Ikwuano LG to the State capital, Umuahia.


To that effect the Abia Government, through the State Ministry of Works has invited bids for the 'Construction of Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Oboro road whose length is 6.799 kilometres'


Bidders were also invited for another portion of the road  'Construction of Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Oboro ( Amuro-Oburo) with a distance of 6.799 kilometres


The Abia Government is also seeking to dualise the Abia Tower to Onuimo road connecting the State with Imo State.


In an advertisement in a national newspaper, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Izuchukwu Onwughara stated that the construction might last between 18-30 months


The Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Oboro is the route to the farming belt of Ikwuano LG rich in cocoa, palm oil and rice, often referred to as the food basket of Abia State. The road was first constructed in the first Republic, but has fallen into disrepair for over thirty years, and no longer in use by motor vehicles


Bidders were also invited for other major roads across the State including Ntigha-Mbawsi-Umuala road amongst others
