A political association, the Abia State Equity Group, ABSEG on Saturday urged Abia State Governor Alex Otti to come clean to Abians on the rationale for  sidelining  a properly constituted Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC and cobbling together another ABSIEC with  the mandate to conduct local government council elections for the State.

In a statement the Convener/Chairman of ABSEG, Rev Okechukwu Christopher Obioha stated that it is an aberration for Gov Otti to be paying two ABSIECs simultaneously.

The statement urged Gov Otti to be circumspect, follow the rules and be clean in every of the steps leading to the said forth coming LGAs elections in Abia State.

However, it added that even if  the law may have allowed him to appoint at will, the  ABSIEC, yet the same law states that he must dissolve the old ABSIEC  properly.

" It is a bundle of contradiction and runs counter to your self acclaimed transparent and accountable position to ndi Abia State, to be paying the members of the Commission appointed by your predecessor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and at the same time paying and running the next LGAs coming up on Nov. 2,  2024 and paying the new members led by Prof George China Oti (though we often see him answering Prof George China in the recent).

"Except you have unprecedentedly put them on pension with their full salaries and allowances after one year plus in office, the most prudent way, and for purposes of equity, justice and fairness, is to officially pay the old members off front and deal with the new alone", Rev Obioha maintained in the statement

It further added: "You proud yourself of identifying ghost workers in Abia to save our money, which we appreciate. This one of paying two sets of members of the same Commission as ongoing is an abarreation   both in law and precedent in practice. Stop it forthwith please and save us this money which is the major reason we elected you in Office", the statement submitted
