Gov Alex Otti

By Don Ubani

It is a widely held assumption among the Igbo that a tree does not fall without making unusual sound in advance. In such a situation, the Wise will always make his escape to safety before the eventual fall.

So far in the 33-year history of Abia State, 1991-2024, the amount of money that has been pumped into the State since June 2023, and date, could not have been anticipated or imagined by any previous Government in the State.

Governor Alexander Otti has, so far, handled the finances of Abia State with unprecedented abundant recklessness and complete  lack of honesty and transparency.

For the first time in Abia State, a Governor claimed to have worked and expended huge amount of public resources on 108 Roads, yet the Roads are nowhere to be seen and used.

Alexander Otti's Government is the only Government that has established notoriety for forcing its Commissioners and other State Officials to resign forcefully for wanting to know how Billions of Naira were reported to have been spent in their Ministries or Agencies without knowing about it.

It is only in Governor Alexander Otti's Administration, since the creation of Abia State in 1991, that a Governor has divested Local Government Council Chairmen of their Seals, keeping them with him at his private residence at Umuehim-Nvosi in Isialangwa-South Local Government Area.

This is the first time that some Civil and Public Servants in Abia State are sadly staying close to one year without salary only because of assumed technical errors arising from verification exercises, which faults were not theirs.

Contrary to ethics, it is only in Abia State, under Governor Otti, that the finances of the State are transacted in a Bank the Governor has vested interest.

The conceit and arrogance that Governor Otti exudes have never been encountered by Abians from any other Governor before him. He has neither respect nor consideration for any person, whatsoever. He perceives himself as a god.

Governor Otti has, by his actions, concluded that Abia State is a conquered territory and, so, he carries himself with the pride and assumptions of a 'Conquering Emperor'.

If the Abia Electorate will ever make the mistake of allowing Governor Alexander Otti a second tenure in 2027 or any time thereafter, the State would sink into rubbles and total oblivion.

It is better to avoid such impending calamitous outcome, if not for any other reason, for the sake of the future of Abia generations not yet born. The tree that is about falling has shown enough signs, Abia People should make hay while the sun shines. Once bitten, twice shy!
