Abia State ruling Labour Party, LP has barred serving Transition Committee Chairpersons, otherwise called Mayors, their deputies and councillors from contesting the Nov. 2 scheduled LG polls in the State.


Rising from an   enlarged stakeholders meeting of the Party, held at the residence of Gov. Alex Otti on Sunday, Sept 29,  2024 the part cited Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 which  states that all political appointees seeking to contest elections must resign from their appointed position at least 30 days prior to the date of nomination or party primary.


To that end other ambitious political appointees are therefore barred from the election as the Abia State State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC has already scheduled the primary for Oct 3-4, 2024 

Dailyledger.com.ng gathered that the stakeholders also resolved that candidates for the election would emerge through consensus rather than direct or indirect primary
