The State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Chief Ogaranya  Ifemeje  on Saturday dismissed a video recording claims by some some visitors  who went to the Abia State Government House to pledge loyalty to Governor Alex Otti, who claim to be defecting from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP

They are unknown to NNPP -Ifemeje

"We are shocked that certain people are trading with the name of NNPP, by parading themselves as members of the party and paying a courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti to pledge their loyalty to him on behalf of NNPP or as defectors from the party. They are not members of the Abia State chapter of the NNPP. They are not known to the party either at the State or National level" Chief Ifemeje  told dailyledger.com.ng in a telephone conversation.

"The man who spoke in the video, one Ukpai Iro Ukpai of course flew NNPP's flag as it's gubernatorial in the  2023 General Elections, but immediately after the election, he distanced himself from the party, from that time till now, he had no association with the party. He came to the party as an individual and left alone. Therefore, those who went  with him to the Government House to lie to the governor are not members of NNPP,  Abia State chapter. There were representing themselves as political jobbers, not NNPP members ", Ifemeje  affirmed

In a related development,  Abia State  Publicity Secretary of the  NNPP chief Ejike Adibe in a statement equally described the entourage as seen in the video as political jobbers  looking for where to get their next daily meal

"Mssrs Ukpai Iro Ukpai and  Chiedozie Josiah, were respectively NNPP governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the Party during the 2023 election, but they both disappeared after the election", chief Adibe stated in the release

"The Abia State chapter of the NNPP wishes to clear the air on certain persons who went  to visit  the Abia State governor claiming to be defecting members of the NNPP. They are not known to the party nor are they registered members of any chapter of the party either at the ward, local government, State or National level", the Publicity Secretary stated.

He advised Gov Otti to be wary of opportunists parading as politicians promising him heaven and earth ahead the 2027 governorship election.
