Not less than one week after 11 persons were reported killed in Nibo, Awka South Local Government area of Anambra state occurred,  another devastating shooting incident occurred in Awka today, October 24, 2024, at approximately 45 a.m.  leaving several people dead.


Sources reveals that at least five persons were killed in the melee, with preliminary information suggesting that armed men began shooting sporadically, fatally hitting some individuals in the area. Empty shells have been recovered from the scene.


The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with some comparing the situation to international hotspots like South Africa, Malaysia, and Jamaica.


Confirming the report, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release to newmen said "The Police responding team has taken over the scene of indiscriminate shooting today 24/10/2024 by 9:15 am at Ifite, behind UNIZIK gate, Awka by suspected gunmen". 


"Preliminary information shows that the armed men unprovoked started shooting sporadically and some bullets fatally hit four persons in the area and were rushed to the hospital for aid by the police operatives.  Also, some empty shells of bullets have been recovered at the scene". 


"Meanwhile operations are ongoing in the area and further details shall be communicated, please".
