A popular Ogene artiste in Enugu, Igbo Jah, has allegedly been shot dead by a Police officer attached to the Anti-Cult Unit of the Enugu State Police Command.


The musician was reportedly shot by an Anti-Cult Police operative  in their Enugu office.



Close associates and fans of the artist said he had attended an event at the anti-cult office when Policemen at the station started shooting indiscriminately and the artist was hit in the process.


Igbo Jay  was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival, according to an eyewitness.


The eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said, “They went for an event at anti cult office Enugu unfortunately for him, when those ndi Eke started shooting and some bullet’s touch him before they could rush him to hospital he died on the way.”


A friend of the artist, who did not want to be identified, also said that he had been with the deceased musician two days ago at Umuchigbo community where they had watched masquerade display together.


The Police is yet to react to the incident but Enugu residents especially his fans who received the news of the traditional musician, have condemned the reported circumstance of his death.


They demanded thorough investigation to unravel what really transpired to warrant his being killed in such a careless manner by a trigger-happy policeman.
