Abia State Governor Alex Otti was on Friday asked to justify his abduction and incarceration of an Abian civil servant, Mr Success Onyekachi Nwabueze who was abducted from his office on Oct 30, 2024 by officers of the Department of State Security, DSS and locked up incommunicado for over 24 hours before his whereabouts were ascertained 


As news of Nwabueze filtered out, the Special Adviser to Abia State Governor, Ferdinand Ekeoma quickly rushed  out a statement that Onyekachi Nwabueze has made confessional statement admitting guilt on corrupt and fraudulent practices in his office. Nwabueze has not been charged to any court and remains under lock and key.


In an open letter to Gov Otti, the good governance advocate, Eke Ako has queried the governor's moral justification for his ordering that Nwabueze remains incarcerated without trial, despite existing law that a person accused of any crime can only be held in custody for 24 hours and thereafter charged to court .


"Where Is Your Moral Standing for  Incarceration of Nwabueze?",  the title of Ako's letter reads.


The full letter reads as follows:


Dear Gov. Alex Otti 


Under you, over ₦200 billion  of Abia State public funds have been claimed for projects that don't exist in the State,  tens of billions of Naira of LGA Allocations have been brutally abused, yet no one has been arrested or jailed.


Your government is the most corrupt in the entire country with over N100bn so far claimed for road projects that mostly don't exist in the State.


You oversee the most corrupt regime we have seen in Abia, yet no conviction for the non-existent research centers, ICT Centers,  Agric infrastructure,  electricity and water projects, capacity building projects,  agric seedlings, vehicles, erosion control projects, industrial equipment, land and many other non-existent projects for which over hundred  billion Naira have been claimed.


May I humbly remind you that every tyranny has an expiry date. Ogbonnaya Onu once occupied the seat you occupy today, but yesterday you saw his lifeless body brought before you. The same fate awaits you and I.


There was a time when you were one of the revered names in Nigeria’s banking industry,  but today, neither you nor the bank you superintended over can be remembered as a force in the industry. 


Many economic crimes have been committed under your leadership,  but you are busy witch-hunting a harmless civil servant, Success Onyekachi Nwabueze, whose only crime is  his patriotism.  


Soon, you shall be history just like OUK, TA and Ikpeazu.  Yours shall be the worst, considering the industrial scale looting of Abia State funds under your watch 


Release Nwabueze Onyekachi now! His incarceration will not help you because alot is already available, and will be exposed with time.


You cannot fool Abians forever. You lack the moral standing to accuse anyone of corruption. 


Anyone shown mercy by others or forced to refund stolen funds without being imprisoned,  will usually extend such grace to others.


Abia shall be free.
