...urges accountability and transparency in Abia

The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy, and Development (FENRAD), a civil society organisation has extended warm congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

"This milestone is a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to the service of the people", FENRAD stated in a press statement signed by its  Executive Director,  Comrade Nelson  Nwafor

The Foundation acknowledged and commended  Gov  Otti’s strides in infrastructural development across the State, particularly the ongoing road rehabilitation, urban renewal projects, and other initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic landscape of Abia.

"These interventions are critical to enhancing the welfare of citizens and fostering sustainable development", it stressed.

It further added: "While we celebrate these commendable efforts, we also seize this opportunity to call on the governor to deepen his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management. As a state that yearns for inclusive governance and participatory democracy, we urge the government to institutionalize a proactive disclosure framework where citizens are regularly informed about state projects, expenditures, and decision-making processes"

To achieve this, FENRAD recommended the establishment of a periodic Accountability and Transparency Briefing, where the government provides Abians with updates on project execution, budget implementation, and policy direction. This initiative will not only build public trust but also encourage civic engagement in governance.

"As Gov  Otti marks his 60th birthday, we urge him to consolidate his administration’s achievements by strengthening accountability mechanisms, ensuring prudent use of public funds, and fostering open governance. The people of Abia State deserve a government that prioritizes integrity, efficiency, and inclusivity in decision-making.

"Once again, we congratulate His Excellency on this milestone and wish him continued wisdom and strength in his leadership journey", the statement affirmed.
