Gov Alex Otti 


The President-General Ariam-Usaka Development Union, High Chief Charles Ugboajah has applauded Abia State Governor Alex Otti for approving and awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Amuro-Ihim-Amawom  road. In the same breath he  says he is sending a Save-Our-Soul message to the governor to quickly intervene on the Ariam-Usaka Ring Road and end the suffering of the people 


The reconstruction of the 13-kilometre Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Amuro-Ihim-Amawom   road which transverses two local government areas has since been flagged-off by the governor

"It is an event worthy of commendation that Gov. Alex Otti has approved and  awarded  the contract for the reconstruction of Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Amuro-Ihim-Amawom  road. It is worth stressing that this road has been in disrepair and utter neglect for the past forty years despite its strategic role as the route of Abia's agricultural belt. The people of Ikwuano LG appreciate the governor's drive for infrastructural development and rehabilitation"


In a related development, Ugboajah, the former Caretaker Committee Deputy Chairman for Ikwuano LG appealled to Gov Otti to equally consider the construction of the Ariam-Usaka Ring Road whose construction has been kept in abeyance for over 24 years 


"Even as we appreciate Gov Otti for awarding the contract on Onuinyang-Okporoenyi-Amuro-Ihim-Amawom road, we are in the same breath calling on him to declare a state of emergency on some portions of the Ariam-Usaka Ring Road, specifically the Ogwuegbu and Amaegbu Erosion sites  and immediately mobilise efforts to prevent the loss of lives and properties.


"The Ogwuegbu and Amaegbu  gully erosion sites  and un-passable portions of  the Ariam-Usaka Ring road traversing more than half of the entire community have made life very unbearable to the people, who are mostly peasant farmers, making life miserable for them both in going to their farms and moving produce to nearby markets. The people feel neglected and abandoned by the State government”, he said 


Chief Ugboajah added  that present nine villages on some portions of the road are on the verge of being swallowed up by life-threatening and devastating erosion that has equally cut off some  communities from other parts of Abia State.


"We believe a quick intervention by government would prevent a disaster of unimaginable proportions.  What has slowed down the fast sweeping erosion is the dry season and it is best left to the imagination what would befall the nine villages with the return of the rainy season.


"We are therefore sending this Save-Our-Soul to our most able governor, His Excellency Dr Alex Otti to come to the aid of Ariam-Usaka people in respect of the long abandoned Ariam-Usaka Ring Road. We pray he intervenes in this road and save lives and properties with the same remarkable speed he has intervened on other road projects since coming to office", Ugboajah appealed.
