- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) in Mexico, through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), has developed a scholarship program that aims to contribute to the sustainable development of nations by providing access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education.
Scholarship Overview
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), invites international students interested in pursuing studies in Mexico at the specialty, masters, doctoral, and postgraduate research levels, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate student mobility programs, to apply for the Excellence Scholarships from the Government of Mexico for Foreigners.
- More than 90 Mexican Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) participate in this scholarship program by providing academic programs that reflect the progress the country has made in various areas of science and humanities.
- In addition, this scholarship program offers partner countries and Mexico the opportunity to carry out student exchanges while fostering academic and cultural integration between countries.

What does the scholarship cover?
- A monthly maintenance stipend of four times the monthly value of the UMA (Unit of Measurement and Update), equivalent to $13,202.12 (thirteen thousand two hundred and two pesos 12/100 MN) monthly for master’s, undergraduate, and master’s level mobility.
- A monthly maintenance stipend of five times the monthly value of the UMA, equivalent to $16,502.65 (Sixteen thousand five hundred and two pesos 65/100 MN) for doctoral scholarships and research stays.
- Enrollment and tuition fees.
- Medical insurance through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
- Exemption from visa costs.
- International air transport in economy class and on the most convenient route for AMEXCID upon successful completion of the scholarship.
- National transportation from Mexico City to the host city of the receiving academic institution and back on completion of the scholarship period.
- In all applicable cases, AMEXCID will purchase the airline ticket. Any individual purchases will not be subject to reimbursement.
NOTE:
- AMEXCID purchases airline tickets for scholarship recipients. Individual ticket purchases will be not be reimbursed.
- Any changes desired by the scholarship recipient to the airline ticket purchased by AMEXCID after its issuance will be covered by the individual.

Am I Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- have a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree, as required by the program for which the scholarship is requested;
- have a minimum grade point average of eight (8.0) on a scale of 0 to 10, or the equivalent, for the last academic degree received;
- be accepted to or currently enrolled in a program at one of the participating Mexican institutions;
- be a national of one of 180 eligible countries.
How do I Apply – Next Steps
- All applications should be submitted in electronic format through the Academic Management System (SIGCA) once it is opened for applications. It will remain open until the scholarship deadline.
- All applications must be in Spanish.
- Only one registration per person is accepted, and applying on behalf of another person is not allowed.
- Applicants with more than one nationality can only submit one application which must correspond to one of the eligible countries listed.
- Only applications for admissions into the courses available under the scholarship program will be evaluated.
Required Documents
- Copy of the valid passport showing the applicant’s identification details.
- Declaration letter filled out using a word processor and signed by the applicant.
- Curriculum Vitae filled out using a word processor. (A maximum of 4 pages signed by the applicant)
- Copy of the medical certificate: Issued by a public or private health institution, dated no more than 3 (three) months prior to the submission of the application, stating that the applicant is in good health. (If in a language other than Spanish, it must be accompanied by a certified translation).
- Specific documentation required for undergraduate, masters, doctoral and postgraduate research stays.
